Copenhagen Pride Week is marked every year with celebration, colors, and joy. The colors of the rainbow adorn the streets and alleys as a tribute to diversity and love.

Since 2019, Stouenborg has had the honor of putting his own colorful touch on Pride Week for Flying Tiger Copenhagen, which has chosen to contribute to the celebrations by having the entire facade of its headquarters illuminated in all the colors of the rainbow.

The head office is no ordinary building – it is a historic warehouse from 1764, idyllically situated by Copenhagen’s harbour in Christianshavn. When the sun sets and night falls, the old building, with its beautiful façade of yellow Flensborg stone, transforms into a spectacular illuminated landmark. Here, lamps in all the colours of the rainbow are switched on, enveloping the entire façade in a brilliant sea of colour, forming a gigantic rainbow across the listed building.

The installation is relatively simple in its construction, consisting of only six lamps – one for each of the colors of the rainbow – and a timer that ensures that the lights are turned off during the day when it is not necessary to illuminate the facade. But even though the installation is simple, the effect is quite eye-catching and impressive. The colorful facade can be seen from a long distance, where it lights up the water surface of the harbor and creates a visual feast for the eyes in a large part of the harbor area in Copenhagen.

When viewed from the opposite side of the harbor, the rainbow is beautifully reflected in the water, doubling the light experience, giving the installation an extra dimension. The reflection in the water adds depth and drama to the colorful lighting, and it is this reflection that makes the project so effective. The combination of the historic architecture and the modern rainbow colors creates an exciting expression that captures both the eye and the heart – and not only celebrates diversity and multiplicity, but also pays tribute to one of the city's old architectural gems.

Stouenborg has also helped others with projects on building surfaces. You can read about the one we did at Ballerup railway station, Bellevue Theater and Den Franske Abassade, among others. You can also read about other live installations we have done here.
